The Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson have announced the launch of the Little Wins campaign in the UK – a social media-led patient empowerment campaign driven for, and by, people living with arthritis. The campaign launch coincides with the Annual European Congress of Rheumatology (EULAR) taking place in Amsterdam on 13-16 June.
People living with arthritis are often faced with obstacles when carrying out daily tasks such as opening a jam jar, due to the increased joint pain and swelling in their hands. Little Wins provides patients with a platform to share ‘life hacks’ with each other, that can help them overcome these daily challenges.
Little Wins will be hosted on Facebook to provide a hub for patients and carers across Europe to share these hacks, hints and tips to help make everyday activities and tasks more manageable.
It is estimated that about 10 million people in the UK will seek help from their doctor each year for arthritis or a related condition. These chronic conditions can be challenging with mobility and motivation varying each day, making the simplest of tasks impossible on some days. Minimising these hurdles and finding alternative solutions to carrying out everyday tasks can give patients the encouragement they need to feel more in control of their lives.
Neil Betteridge, Director, Neil Betteridge Associates and independent patient representative, commented, “This campaign is great news for people living with arthritis in the UK, who not only have to deal with chronic pain and discomfort on a daily basis, but also face challenges with simple everyday tasks.”
